Opening Hours

The GLUCKSMAN Little Interview

Each week we ask the same set of questions to a different member of our community. Throughout 2015, we interviewed diverse members of the Glucksman community - artists, academics, staff members, guests, audiences and workshop participants. The responses were funny, inspiring, revealing and always a great read. The archive of 2015's interviews can be found here. Thanks to all who took part!

This week we hear from Ellen Byrne, the newest member of our desk team at the Glucksman.

Ellen Byrne: 20 May 2016

What are you reading?
The Goldfinch by Donna Tart. I love good fiction!

Favourite museum?
This question is too difficult, too many to choose from... (Although can I say the Glucksman is top of my list!?)

Best performance?
I am going to go with a musical performance for this one, one of my first concerts was under the big top at the Galway Arts Festival when I was a teenager. I went to see Bon Iver and I don’t think I have been as excited for another performance since.

What is your most treasured possession?
My Nissan Micra, she is 15years old and very temperamental, but I would be lost without her!

What work(s) of art inspire you?
Anything to do with everyday objects always appeals to me, Jim Dine’s series of Tools are some of my favourite pieces. I also love illustrative work, people like Gabriella Barouche, Sylvia Taylor and Sandra Diekmann. I have never included animals in my own drawing but I always find myself drawn to them in other peoples work.

A lightbulb moment?
Probably when I started my first admin job in an engineering firm, it made me realise how much I wanted to work in the arts.

Guilty pleasure?
Netflix binging, if I get hooked on a series I find it hard to stop!

What would you like to be doing right now?
Anything in the sunshine is always good! Hopefully it comes back soon...
