The GLUCKSMAN Little Interview

Every month we ask the same set of questions to someone collaborating with us. Over the last two years, we have interviewed diverse members of the Glucksman community - artists, academics, staff members, guests, audiences and workshop participants. The responses were funny, inspiring, revealing and always a great read. The archive of 2015's interviews can be found here and the 2016 archive is here. Thanks to all who took part!

This month, our Little Interview features Jane Hyland, UCC graduate, Barrister and Glucksman member.

Jane Hyland: July 2017

What are you reading?
Rick Riordan's "Percy Jackson and the Greek Gods" as recommended by my girls which is cheering me up as I make my way through Anne Applebaum's "Iron Curtain: the crushing of Eastern Europe."

Favourite museum?
The Glucksman of course!

Best performance?
Best recent performances were the wonderful Glasheen Girls' National School performance of "Mary Poppins" and, on the other end of the scale in terms of cheeriness, the terrifying Corcadorca production of "Far Away" by Caryl Churchill on Spike Island.

What is your most treasured possession?
My family and particularly my girls, Maeve, Johanna and Kate.

What work(s) of art inspire you?
The various artworks produced by the above and Homage to the Square, 1976 by Josef Albers.

A lightbulb moment?
The realisation 6 years ago that the Glucksman were providing a free art workshop every week called Family Sundays where my girls, their cousins and friends have had the opportunity over the years to be taught and encouraged by incredibly patient, talented and creative practicing artists like Killian O' Dwyer and others.

Guilty pleasure?
Dark chocolate is the only one I'm admitting to here.

What would you like to be doing right now?
Walking on the back strand at Fountainstown with my Dad who died 9 years ago this summer.
