The GLUCKSMAN Little Interview

This week we hear from Kath Gorman, Guest curator at Cork Midsummer Festival

Kath Gorman: 17 June 2015

What are you reading?
Hidden Cork by Michael Lenihan. It’s a fascinating read about Cork’s history, it’s many varied events and colourful characters including the story around Art O’Leary (presented in last weekend’s Cork Midsummer Festival).

Favourite museum?
The Victoria and Albert Museum in London for its rich treasures and stunning collections and the Natural History Museum in Dublin for its cabinets of curiosities that delight and intrigue my children.

Best performance?
I’m still thinking about the amazing high-energy performance Dublin Oldschool at the Everyman Theatre last night. Performed by Emmet Kirwan (Sarah & Steve) and Ian Lloyd Anderson (LOVE/HATE), two incredibly talented actors who bring to life a whole array of characters. Don’t miss it - it’s on until Sunday as part of Cork Midsummer Festival.

What is your most treasured possession?
A teacup scarf given to me by the women of intercultural arts project, Creative Connections who I worked with during Cork Midsummer Festival 2011 and 2012.

What work(s) of art inspire you?
The Mexican artist Frida Kahlo for her stunning self-portraits, created when she was often in extreme pain due to chronic health problems.

A lightbulb moment?
That life is not a rehearsal – pardon the pun!

Guilty pleasure?
The Good Wife on More 4.

What would you like to be doing right now?
It’s a glorious day here in Cork, so I would like to be sitting outside and drinking coffee at The Castle at Blackrock Observatory (where Crash Ensemble will be performing this weekend). Or having lunch at the Glucksman’s fantastic Fresco restaurant.
