The GLUCKSMAN Little Interview

This week we hear from Martin O'Connor, a librarian at the UCC Boole Library

Martin O'Connor: 20 March 2015

What are you reading?
Evan Osnos – Age of Ambition: Chasing Fortune, Truth & Faith in the New China.

Favourite museum?
The Tate Modern.
Or (the librarian in me must say) Tianyi Pavilion (Tian Yi Ge) Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, China

Best performance?
Theatre - A two hander: Cillian Murphy & Eileen Walsh in Disco Pigs.
Film – Bill Murray in Lost in Translation.
Music – Godspeed you Black Emperor at The Amabassador Dublin 2002 or The Tripod Dublin 2010 (where they played an encore – they never play encores)

What is your most treasured possession?
Probably my film collection: DVDs and books

What work(s) of art inspire you?
The shows that inspired or moved the most are:
Clare Langan Metamorphosis, Fenton Gallery, Cork, 2008
and
William McKeown in St Carthage Hall, Lismore 2013

A lightbulb moment?
When I finally ‘got’ Twitter. After years of wondering what the fuss was I realised what an amazing, powerful and essential resource it is. On so many levels: an information source, an information sharing tool, a CPD tool and networking tool.

Guilty pleasure?
I don’t consider it a guilty pleasure but I know others do – Joss Whedon’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the TV show – not the film).

What would you like to be doing right now?
Walking somewhere quiet, remote & peaceful on a warm sunny day…
