The GLUCKSMAN Little Interview

This week we hear from Tomás Tyner, photographer and audio-visual media services, UCC.

Tomás Tyner: 25 September 2015

What are you reading?
“Winners and how they succeed” by Alastair Campbell. “The Monk who sold his Ferrari” by Robin Sharma

Favourite museum?
Victoria and Albert Museum. It’s beyond brilliant, so visual, inspiring. And the Lewis Glucksman Gallery (I know, not a museum) but for the range of exhibitions & also when asked to pop in, it’s like walking in on family.

Best performance?
Three spring to mind: The Rock and Roll Worship Circus in the Corn Exchange, Cambridge, 2004. Remember the pounding of Bass and vintage keyboards, a stunned audience and then the joy.
Paul McCartney because…….
And Yusuf Islam/Cat Stevens – see later.

What is your most treasured possession?
A letter from Yusuf Islam from 1987.

What work(s) of art inspire you?
As a photographer it is the still image. Two images that made an impact were: A photo by Nick Ut taken of children running from a napalm attack during the Vietnam War in 1972. And the iconic photo of Tank Man, the unknown rebel who stood in front of a column of Chinese tanks in an act of defiance following the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989. They have depth beyond what is visible.

A lightbulb moment?
“Lions Don’t Lose Sleep Over The Opinion Of Sheep”

Guilty pleasure?
“Rescue Me” box set. TV at it’s very best, all93 episodes.

What would you like to be doing right now?
Driving my restored 1977 Vauxhall Viva 1300L…someday…
